Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Third Molar | Tooth Extraction | Wisdom Teeth Treatment in Melbourne

Wisdom teeth (also known as third molars) usually erupt when people are in their late teens or early twenties. Insufficient space in the jaw may lead to your wisdom teeth becoming impacted.

  • Pain
  • Recurring gum infections
  • Difficulty brushing and flossing
  • Decay and/or bone loss on the wisdom tooth or adjacent toot

Your dentist will perform a clinical examination and take an x-ray to determine if your wisdom teeth need to be extracted and whether it can be performed under a local or general anesthetic. More difficult extractions may be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

The likelihood of a serious complication after wisdom tooth extraction are rare but will be discussed with your dentist. The amount of swelling, bruising and/or pain experienced after an extraction and the time required for recovery will vary between individuals and depend on the difficulty of the extractions.
